Romancing the Bean has been a Magnolia Park fixture since 1997 — a family-run café where Chef Kerry Krull-Meadows built every detail from the ground up. The warmth she put into it is still here every single day.
How Kerry started it all
Chef Kerry Krull-Meadows trained at Le Cordon Bleu and spent more than 25 years working in restaurants before opening Romancing the Bean in 1997. Her vision was simple and personal: "I want people to feel like they're coming into my home — like they're getting a sandwich from their mom."
A family affair from day one
Kerry's daughter Kendra designed the café's romantic interior — that warm, old-yet-modern elegance that makes the room feel both timeless and welcoming. Her son Ramsey stepped in to handle operations and was the very first barista behind the counter.
What we put into every plate
The menu is built on ingredients sourced fresh from the local Farmer's Market, paired with certified organic Groundworks coffee. Sustainable sourcing isn't a tagline here — it's just how Kerry has always cooked.
Recognized by neighbors and the state alike
Romancing the Bean has won the Burbank Leader's "Best of Burbank" award every year since opening. In 2018, Senator Anthony J. Portantino honored Kerry as an "Outstanding Small Business Woman" — recognition the regulars could have told you was coming.
